I love hunting with my FAC rifles where the extra power helps me target rabbits at slightly longer ranges. However, some of my permissions are not suitable for FAC and that’s when I turn to one of my .177 guns. At the UK legal limit, I find the trajectory very similar to my 30 ft/lbs .22 and 50 ft/lbs .25 out to 40 metres – my self-imposed limit. I love shooting my Daystate Wolverine R C Type, especially as it is fitted with an MTC King Cobra F1 6-24x50 scope. The first focal plane means that the aim points don’t change at different magnifications. With a 27 metre zero, the Wolverine needs one mildot of holdover at 40 metres no matter whether I’m shooting at 6x or 24x. My shooting buddy Kev borrowed the combo for a rabbit control session recently and put it through its paces. ... See MoreSee Less

One of my permissions is a dairy farm and the sheds are lit up at night which gives me the luxury of being able to target the many rats without having to use night vision gear. I’ve been experimenting with the SWAT Prismatic 12x50 scope on my .177 Daystate Pulsar. The 42mm tube exploits the light and the huge field of vision and ability to focus at targets as close as six metres away makes it ideal for the job. ... See MoreSee Less

Looking forward to the 10x30 Atom. Definitely something I'd be interested in!

I use Fx impact in buildings as I just turn power wheel down to sensible settings.

When is the 10x fixed mag coming out? really looking forward to this.

Wot is your ideal. 22 air rifle for rats and pigeons inside a shed with out going through the roof or tin

What's price on these and how do they compare to the mtc pro

I take it these are OK on rimfire too?

Can you attach night vision to these? Either a Nite Sight Viper or a Pard NV007?

I spent some time on the range yesterday getting re-acquainted with my Mamba Lite 3-12x42 which I use on my .177 Daystate Pulsar. I'm doing a lot of shooting from hides at the moment, mainly squirrels and it won't be long before the crops come in and pigeons are on the agenda. The Mamba Lite gives excellent field of view and the SCB (small calibre ballistic) reticle with its floating cross and fine lines allows for very precise pellet placement - something the Pulsar is very capable of delivering. ... This from MTC’s hunting consultant, Richard Saunders:

Recently I was asked to clear some rabbits and squirrels from the beautifully manicured gardens of a large house. My grey laminate .177 Daystate Wolverine R and Mamba 2-12x50 scope could have been made for the job. The low 2x magnification provides a huge field of view, making it easy to spot targets, and the fine reticule allows for really precise shooting – something my Wolverine R was only too happy to provide.

From MTC Optics hunting advisor, Richard Saunders:

At this time of year there’s nothing like picking a comfy spot and setting ambush to control rabbit populations. If the grass isn’t too long, using a bipod and lying prone will help you exploit the accuracy of your rifle. I use a Mamba Lite 4-16x42 on my Brocock Bantam in .177. The combination is laser accurate and nice and light to carry across fields, although I always seem to have plenty of time to recover from any hike.
